Spent another weekend at this campsite. We’ve camped here about 4 times now. Each time we remember just how much we really enjoy this campsite. The weather was sunny and hot so we spent all Saturday wadding and floating down the river. The campground is well managed, the bathrooms clean, the playgrounds in good repair. We always seem to camp close to the highway, but it’s not that bad and is very quite at night. Some of the campsites have weird shapes and not always perfect for large trailers, but you can fit a couple units on most of the sites and so it’s a great way to camp with another family.

On the shore of Buffalo Lake this full service campground offers full, partial and unservices sites including beach front camping. All sites are
beautifully maintained and include a picnic table and fire pit.

Most of the sites are enclosed by trees for privacy and all are a short walk away from showers, bathrooms, playgrounds and amenities.

Families will enjoy the petting zoo, arcade, rental toys, and hay rides. This is truely a family destination.

This is a great family get-away. There are so many activities that you won’t have any trouble keeping the kids busy. With all the other families there the kids will have no trouble finding others to play with.

If you aren’t a family with kids this might not be the spot for you. Also the facilities do seem a bit dated. Everything is functional, but don’t expect nice and new anything.

Campground Information Services Hookups
On the shores of Gull Lake only 2 hours from both Calgary and Edmontononly is Aspen Beach Provincial Park Campground. With approximately 600 sites that accommodate a diverse range of campers and offer power, water, sewer; power; non-power and group camping. The Park has an array of amenities, including playgrounds, washrooms, showers, walking and biking trails, a baseball diamond, horseshoe pits, concession, as well as, two large beaches within walking distance of all the sites.

The beaches get very busy on the weekends but are an amazing place to enjoy the water. Because the shore is so shallow the water temperature is perfect for spending the day.

Being in between both Calgary and Edmonton makes this a popular destination. Even better than the great campground is the beach and lake. The water is shallow and warm, making it a great place to take the family to spend the day. It does get busy so get there early to stake your spot.

Campground Information Services Hookups
Right on the shores of Sylvan Lake only 10 minutes from the Town of Sylvan Lake. This campground is one of the few right on the lake. You can enjoy some piece and quite at your campsite or venture into Sylvan Lake to spend time on the beach of in one of the many cafes, restaurants or shops.

It is important to note that there is no direct lake access from the campground. If you want to brave one of the unofficial trails you can get down to the rocky shoreline.

A great campground that is equally close to Calgary and Edmonton. Just head to Sylvan Lake and head north at the traffic circle. Make sure you don’t turn into the Jarvis Bay Summer Village, it’s the turn after that.

There is something for everyone here as well. There is a playground, minigolf and an ice cream store. Plus with the walking trails to Sylvan you can enjoy an afternoon on the beach or a round of golf at one of the nearby courses.

On this site on the shore of the Little Red Deer River, an English settler named Mr. Crichley had a craftsman build him a large log home. The logs were painted red, thus Red Lodge became the name of his ranch and later, the name of a small community and the provincial park.

Author review: June 2010

Early June saw us enjoy this campground yet again. As always it’s a great camping experience. Everything is clean and makes for a great weekend. Things I noticed this weekend.
Some of the sites don’t get as much sun as others, if you can get a site along the river in C loop, you’ll enjoy the evening sun.
Loops D and E seem to get a fair bit of traffic noise. I will attempt to stay in loops farther away next time.
The park is a huge hit and there never seemed to be any lack of kids playing there the entire weekend.
The power loop always seems to be full, you can’t reserve in this loop and so I wonder when you have to show up to get a spot there?
Also the sani-dump is always busy on Sunday and I saw a line up of 6 units waiting to dump.

But as always, this is a family favorite, I can’t imagine not having a great time camping here.

This is a great family campground with tons of activities. From the large inflatable water toys or the clean sandy beach you’ll have no problem filling the days. For the kids there is a craft hut with daily activites and make sure to find out what other activities are happing during your stay.

The campsites do leave a bit to be desired. All the prime sites are currently leased by the year and so you get the left overs. They generally don’t have much privacy and the layouts don’t always make sense, but you’ll most likely spend the day by the lake so it doesn’t matter.
